Guitar Lessons Made Simple

Posted on April 1, 2010 with 0 comments

If you've been searching for the best guitar learning method, you must be exhausted! I just did a Google search for "How To Play Guitar" and came up with almost 43 million results! That's a lot of guitar lessons.

Unfortunately, it seems that the only qualifications many of these teachers have is that at some time in their life they have actually seen a guitar.

OK, I'm exaggerating a bit but honestly, I have never seen so many people who think they are expert teachers simply because they can play guitar.  Granted,  there are some very impressive players out there, but teaching guitar is a separate talent

I've been making a living playing guitar for most of my adult life and many friends and family members have asked me to teach them guitar.  While it's fun for me to coach them, I don't really have the time to teach everybody, so I usually suggest they find a good online course.  I thought it might be useful to list some of the things to look for before plunking down hard earned cash for guitar lessons

If you stick with this criteria before you buy I think you'll find your learning experience will be a lot more fun.

  • The course must be able to guide you through the very basics of learning.  It must treat the beginner  like someone who has never even seen a guitar before and clearly demonstrate what to do next.
  • Free sample lessons must be offered so you can get an idea of how compatible you are with the teaching method.
  • You must be able to progress to at least intermediate level quickly so that by the end of the course   you can play just about any song you want and be able to go on to more advanced training.
  • There must be Video Lessons detailing each step.
  • There must be Jam Tracks so you can learn how to play with other musicians.
  • The course must include instruction in reading reading TAB and real guitar music so you can learn any song you choose.
  • The course should be download-able so you can get started right away.
  • It must be affordable and refundable within a reasonable period of time.
  • It must be FUN!  After all, that's why your doing this in the first place.

A lot of sites will try to charge you a recurring fee (a subscription site) for lessons.  I would not recommend that until you get a few lessons under your belt. Then you can decide which additional services you need, if any.

If you want my recommendation,  CLICK HERE, for a guitar learning course I think is terrific. It will take you from beginner to as far as you'd like to go. Good Luck on your musical journey!
